Proud Cabaret - Gallery, Bar, Live-Music Venue
Proud Cabaret is an arcane retreat, fine-dining experience and
cabaret club opening in November. Following 12 years as Europe's
most popular privately funded photographic gallery Alex Proud is
also delighted to announce expansion to a prime Chelsea
location.
Reminiscent of a 1920s speakeasy and located in one of London's
most historic quarters, Proud Cabaret is set to be the destination
venue in the City. Positioned behind Fenchurch Street Station and
nestled amongst iconic landmarks such as the Gherkin and London
Bridge it will be a place to eat, drink and escape.
The building's exterior is a subtle façade to what lies
beneath - hidden away from the passing world two floors below
ground level, its sumptuous decor contains more than a touch of
decadence.
Alex Proud, said "I am thrilled to be opening another venue; guests
at Proud Cabaret will feel like a million dollars". The furnishings
will consist of plush booths, leather upholstered banquettes and
velvet curtains to create an atmosphere of luxury and indulgence;
the mirrored VIP area will make the perfect den of iniquity.
Every detail has been intricately designed by Russell Sage Studios,
whose clientele have included Stapleford Park at the Savoy,
Goodwood and luxury brand LVMH. Working in conjunction with them is
the Creative Director at Proud and Sunday Times Style columnist,
Danielle Proud.
The venue is a flexible space that accommodates different
activities throughout the day and night. The dining room will
operate between 12 and 9pm. In the early evening dinner jazz
musicians will ease guests into the night, evocative of cabaret
clubs in 1920s Berlin.
The latter part of the evening will see a further transgression,
with burlesque performers taking to the stage. Finally the venue
will morph into a club with DJs and bands performing until 5am.
There will be a selection of diverse events each night hosted by
various esteemed promoters. Thursday's 'Supper Club' will be hosted
by the Folly-Wiltons, whose bespoke retro-cabaret nights hark back
to bygone eras. Their nights will be a master-class in cabaret,
with incredible performers and big bands providing the backdrop to
dinner. Guests will be encouraged to fit into the styles and
salutations of the chosen era.
Fridays and Saturdays will be an all encompassing experience with
dinner, entertainment and dancing. My Gosh Marvellous, a vintage
entertainment company brings Hollywood glamour as inspired by the
1920s and 1930s, with West-End caliber singers providing
interactive performances - like that of a Fred Astaire film.
Finally from 10pm and onwards on Monday to Wednesday there will be
raucous Student nights ; these nights will be the consummate
example of the neo-Cabaret scene that is thriving in London, with
cross-genre DJs and bands continuing until 5am, with revelers
encouraged to dress-up in the style of the age.
The restaurant's menu is 'proud to be British'; working with
partners Absolute Taste to source produce and suppliers all from
the UK, food will be cooked and executed exquisitely - there are
130 covers.
The bar's menu includes Maldon rock oysters with shallot dressing
and tobasco, Bath Chaps - braised and breaded pig cheek with a
spicy chutney and mini - Cumberland sausages with mashed potato
dip, amongst other British delicacies.
The main dining room will serve up equally classic dishes; Dorset
crab salad, Foreman's smoked salmon salad and brown bread
ice-cream, Scottish lobster thermidore, Shepherd's pie, beef
Wellington and steak and kidney pie as well as ample vegetarian
options too. A selection of sides, salads and puddings complete
this well rounded menu.
The menu also boasts a British Charcuterie board - the finest cuts
of beef from the Rother Valley, which produces organic beef-aged
for 28 days. A carefully selected wine list will complete this
wonderfully conceived, unmistakably British menu.
Proud Cabaret is a different concept from its sister venues - a
notable step away from photography, on which the name was
built.
