THE ORPHANS...
"From The Kinks to The Stones, from The Clash to Primal Scream,
the Thatcher years informed a youth so redundant of hope they could
only live in the now, so everything mattered right then. The
Orphans focus this sound for the bad times to come, this will be
your sound track...don't fight it. Please sir...can I have some
more..."
I.D. magazine. September 2008
The Orphans, rise proudly from the scattered ashes of a
fractured urn, featuring two true lost souls of rock 'n' roll,
former members of arse-waving, hairspray explosion-in-a-teacup
rockers These Animal Men. The Orphans, with one part Cooper Clarke,
three parts MC5, and two parts The Who at their meaty, beaty,
bouncy best, teeter on the brink of the rock opera abyss.
"Musically, they fuse Townsend windmills and power chords, with
Mott the Hoople and Only Ones street glam, lyrically they reveled
in inherent cool..... Speeed king became new mod slang....by 1998
they were clad in black leather and churning out amped-up MC5
styled punk blues.... "
Lois Wilson - Mojo magazine. June 2009
Boag and Hooligan (now reborn Jonny Orphan) return, united in
rock and roll and a rolling stomping cave man groove. Two new
cohorts were recruited and these dashing blades, stride proudly
forward unleashing a power that will grace your soul and steal your
heart... 2008 saw the triumphant return continue with the initial
limited release of a great new album...MUFF. A monster swagger of
garage rock and grime that encapsulates everything the MC5 shared
with us, and cursed us to follow. A sprinkling of Jon Spencer and a
Dickensian street screamer (murder in Whitechapel) saves us from
the tired quintessential trad London gutter and has us staring at
the 'No Wave' stars over a 70's Manhattan/Tunbridge Wells.
KRISTIAN MARR...

Returning to London after a lengthy tour of Paris and a stint in
New York City, former Towers of London guitarist, the myth, the
legend and beast that is Kristian Marr will be taking to the stage
once again.
LIPSTICK MELODIES...
www.myspace.com/lefthandband
The Lipstick Melodies are a young, vibrant band that capture a
musicality and lifestyle that tastes of rock and roll at it's
initial implosion- when the music of Chuck Berry and Howlin' Wolf
was being twisted to fit the commercial vitality of the Beatles and
the Stones.
Singer Alan Wass recently played a duet of song Hired Gun on MTV
with Pete Doherty
THE VOLITAINS...
www.myspace.com/thevolitains
What came out was a bit of Bowie, a chunk of Depeche Mode, a
slice of The White Stripes and hint of the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs. It
seemed to wash ok, and after interrogating potential band mates
they came across James, their bass player who added the missing
groove. Forming in summer 2008 they have spent a year writing,
recording, rehearsing, partying and recovering together. The sound
has now evolved to be a mixture of punk and blues and with a new
E.P. produced by Mark Waterman (Adam & The Ants, Depeche Mode,
Elastica) and more on the way they are kicking the shit out of P.A
systems around London.
EMBRYON...
www.myspace.com/embryonrockband
Embryon brings you rock with attitude, a blend of power rock and
melodic hard rock with musical influences as diverse as Metallica,
Neil Young and Max Roach.
The Embryon sound is not painted in the two tones of black and
grey, mixing crunching guitar riffs with anthemic vocals, the
melodic overtones laces the sound with layers of colour to produce
a strong sonic identity that encapsulates a wide musical spectrum
full of dynamics and diversity. Add a pinch of technique, attention
for details and arrangements, and you've got a multi dimensional
experience that is Embryon.
ALFIE AND THE HOLICS...
www.myspace.com/alfiecicale
If you've already listened to the songs you won't need me to
tell you that Alfie is a unique talent with an extraordinary voice
who writes songs that are immediate, yearning, relevant and a blast
of fresh air in the current climate of muggy mediocrity. He moved
to Camden, North London in July of this year and immediately
started writing songs inspired by his journey, his environment and
his variety of influences cherry picked from every decade of the
last fifty years. I met him by chance in Camden's The Hawley Arms
where he recommended I listen to his myspace site. That night I
listened and called him first thing the next day. He was asleep but
called me back on waking around lunchtime and wasted no time in
telling me what he was doing, why he was doing it and where he was
going. I tended to agree and within a very short space of time he
was playing gigs around London and winning converts with every
strum of his glittering, spangled, space-dust fuelled guitar...
